I want to appreciate our legal team in the UK for the relentless fight and our NUP/People Power diaspora comrades for constantly raising our voice through protests as well as knocking on different doors. Their main argument has been that it is unfair to open their doors for Gen. Museveni, a world renowned tyrant and yet continue to shut the door for me who, together with many others are trying to build a free and democratic country. I am very glad to inform you that the ban against me from entering the UK has finally been overturned, and I will soon be visiting the UK after more than 10 years.

Thank you my brother @Nickopiyo for gracing the event and for always standing in solidarity with all who struggle for freedom and democracy in Uganda. We are truly grateful for everything you do to push for justice and accountability for the victims of state brutality. Aluta continua.

In the beginning of the #PeoplePower struggle, the regime dismissed us as just a bunch of excited hooligans riding on a wave that would soon pass. Today, barely 2½ years since the fraudulent 2021 election, we have launched the new Headquarters of our struggle; the new home of the @NUP_Ug & the People Power movement. These headquarters have been paid for with the lives and blood of our comrades whom dictator Museveni has tortured, maimed and murdered through the past 3 years for calling out his oppression. So, more than just being our new headquarters, they are a monument of all those comrades who have with their life paid the ultimate price for the rest of us to live free. Comrades like Yasin Kawuma; Ritah Nabukenya, Francis Ssenteza, Dan Kyeyune, Hakim Ssekamwa, and many others who now exist only in our memories. These headquarters are an imposing monument of the sacrifices of all those who carried the torch of freedom and democracy long before us; the likes of Dr. @kizzabesigye1, Dr. Kawanga Ssemogerere, and many others. I thank our team at Parliament and other leaders on whose account we have received the resources we needed to achieve this. I also thank our Secretary General comrade @DavidLRubongoya and your team at the Secretariat who have toiled day and - literally - night to make our dream of these new headquarters a reality. In a special way, I want to thank comrade Dr. for gracefully accepting to attend and speak at the launch as our chief guest. The heavy sacrifices you have made for the last 20+ years in pushing back against Mr. Museveni’s dictatorship are the reason many of us felt challenged and inspired to equally rise up against the Museveni tyranny. In the same measure, thank you Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Hon. Miria Matembe, Counsel Nicholas Opiyo, Mr. Saddam Gayira, Mr. Harold Kaija and other distinguished guests for sparing time to stand in solidarity with us today. We are truly humbled.

The paranoid dictator Museveni let the military loose on the population thinking that that will keep him longer in power. Overworked but poorly paid, these men and women in uniform are as frustrated, angry and hungry as the rest of ordinary citizens. It's not surprising that they have they've resorted to crime — and it will only get worse!

Dictator Museveni has messed up our country so much, to an extent that some Deputy RDC feels powerful enough to block a legitimate activity of a registered political party!

The irony! Dictator Museveni castigates Idi Amin for taking over power unconstitutionally. Of course the hypocrite in him hasn't forgotten that he himself seized power unconstitutionally after leading a war that killed close to a million of our people! Since then, he has organised sham elections at every turn to illegally keep himself in power. His regime is as illegal, as illegitimate and as unconstitutional! Of all people he should be the last to condemn violent, illegal power grabs! What more? What atrocities or crimes did Idi Amin commit that Museveni hasn't committed with even more callousness and impunity? 1. Mass killings? The 1989 Mukura massacre where 69 people were killed after NRA soldiers crammed them into a train wagon and deliberately suffocated them. The 2016 massacre in Kasese where over 150 citizens including women and children were murdered in cold blood. The November 2020 massacre on the streets of Kampala and other parts of Uganda where over 100 unarmed citizens were shot dead. The atrocities committed in Northern Uganda. The 2009 killings over Kayunga protests. The continuing killings of our people in Karamoja. Just to mention a few. In his letter, Museveni mentions some prominent people killed under the Amin regime. Although for Amin there have been some contestations with some people even claiming that our present rulers were behind some of the killings in order to soil the image of the regimes of the day, there has been no pretence under the Museveni regime. Muslim clerics (most recently Sheikh Kirevu) have been shot dead in broad daylight by his criminal regime! He admitted that his regime killed Zebra Mando but not even one individual has been held to account. And of course many other politically motivated and yet unresolved murders- including the brutal murder of Andrew Lutakome Kayiira. 2. Enforced disappearances? Museveni repeatedly castigated Amin and other past regimes for panda-gari and kidnaps. But what has he done? Replaced those trucks with mini-van drones which his operatives use to abduct citizens on a daily basis, keep them in filthy dungeons, subject them to untold torture and in some cases rape them! The families of Johnbosco Kibalama, Damulira John, Kanatta Muhammad, Mbabazi Moses Kawenja, Nalumonso Vincent, Sempijja Yuda, etc etc are still demanding for their people who were picked up in drones three or four years ago. Where does he get the audacity to condemn Amin for the very things he does with so much delight? How many Ugandans are rotting in military and civil prisons, subjected to sham military trials for simply opposing his regime of blood? 3. Destruction of state institutions? Which institution hasn't Museveni deliberately destroyed? He has prided himself in appointing cadre judges to the judiciary and raided courts whenever they don't tow the line. He has reduced Parliament into his walking stick- and at every turn ignored its resolutions whenever they're against his wish and command. He has raided Parliament, not once, with guns in order to ensure that he keeps in power at all costs. The capture has happened to every other institution - universities, the military, police, Bank of Uganda, Civil Aviation Authority, the Uganda Human Rights Commission, URA, UCC, etc etc. 4. Destroying the Ugandan economy? What is a national economy where natural resources and the most lucrative economic interests are ring-fenced for Museveni's family and his few cronies? Where a small clique of those connected to power swim in luxury while the majority of the population live like paupers in their own country? Where public assets were, in the name of privatisation, taken over by the powerful, their resources plundered and many of them ran down? Where ordinary citizens who are trying hard to survive are overtaxed, while Museveni's cronies and their foreign interests are given tax holidays and waivers? Where many previously successful indigenous businesses have collapsed ... 1/2

Here is a video of comrade Johnbosco Kibalama before he was abducted. As you can see, he was a very committed comrade in the struggle for freedom and democracy. Although Museveni's Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja last year confirmed that he is in their custody, Kibalama has not been seen or heard from for over four years. Our country is ruled by the worst form of criminals and we must unite in demanding that they account for these innocent citizens!

We are not in the struggle for the sake of any individual, but, rather, for the general benefit of our country, its people, and the generations to come. We are equal partners with an equal stake in our cause for freedom. If you abandon the struggle because a fellow comrade disappointed you, then you were never there in the first place or you did not understand the cause. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersUganda #BringBackOurPeople

Very sad to learn of the passing of our comrade Mzee Jimba Mayanja. He was a solid Ugandan who worked alongside other comrades to advance the struggle for freedom and democracy. He has been down battling several ailments. Even as we mourn him, I am grateful that God enabled me to grant his last wish. In his last days on earth, he kept sending people to request me to check on him before he passed, which I was able to do last Saturday. Even in sickness, he remained committed to the cause. Fare-thee-well mzee. Till we meet again.

UGANDA AT 61 While dictator Museveni and his cronies will gather in Kitgum tomorrow to 'celebrate independence', we shall gather at our offices in Kamwokya to pray for our comrades killed by the regime, those who were abducted and are still missing, as well as those in illegal detention. We shall reaffirm that there is NOTHING TO CELEBRATE about independence because we are not independent! It was simply a change of guard from white colonialists to black colonialists who have done even worse. As Museveni and his small group gather to celebrate the loot and plunder of our nation for almost fourty years, we shall be joined by the families of the victims of repression to remember their loved ones - the dead, the disappeared and the detained. We shall dedicate a session to the missing journalist Sesanga Batte, who was abducted by regime operatives a few days ago and he remains missing. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersUganda #BringBackOurPeople

On Friday last week, the High Court in Kampala ruled in favor of Hajara Nakitto, whose son, Ssegawa Amos was murdered in cold blood by regime operatives during the November 2020 protests. Amos was only 15 years of age at the time of his extrajudicial killing. Regime operatives went on rampage, killing over 150 innocent citizens. Shamelessly, Museveni came out and praised his 'commandos' for a job well done! He would later claim that more than half of those who died were killed by stray bullets and promised that they would receive 'compensation'. Unsurprisingly, it turned out to be another lie and false promise! To date, there has been nothing - except attempts to silence a few of the victims who were vocal. I want to salute Hajara for her relentless fight for justice for her son. Although the 50 million shillings awarded to her is too small compared to the life lost and the expectations she had in her son, at least it has gone on record that the Museveni regime illegally murdered her son. Of course it's not even clear if the money will ever be paid to her. On our part, we shall continue to use all avenues to push for justice and accountability for these crimes against humanity! May the soul of Amos and all other victims of the Museveni brutality continue resting in peace.

Comrade Ashraf Kasirye has undergone a major surgery for the wound he sustained when he was shot in the head as he stood behind me during our presidential campaigns in December 2020. Ashraf was shot at close range by a hateful regime operative, Enock Abaine, then Regional Police Commander of Masaka! As Ashraf struggles to contend with a cracked skull and the life-long trauma, Abaine was recently awarded for his cowardice with a promotion to full Commissioner of Police! We wish Ashraf a quick healing, and continue to demand for justice against Abaine and other criminals. The wheels of justice may come slow, but they will eventually come, and grind fine.

When dictator Museveni called out Obote and Amin for practicing tribalism and nepotism, that was very okay. But when we call them out for practicing tribalism and nepotism, they say we are intolerant. They say we are promoting sectarianism, hate speech, etc. What a bunch of hypocrites! All we want to see is a Uganda that works for all- a Uganda that provides a fair chance for every citizen.

We're winding up this week's #NUPCountryWideTour with a trip to Luweero, that part of Uganda which dictator Museveni and his NRA rebels turned into a pot of misery as they murdered and plundered their way into power. Sad to see that 37 years since the war ended, the people of Luweero are still suffering from unhealed trauma and broken promises. Today, we are taking them a message of hope!
