Yesterday, as Museveni sought to extend his oppressive, criminal rule beyond 4 decades, he unleashed a gang of desperate youth to instil fear and wreak havoc in Kampala. They robbed and beat up citizens in broad daylight, as they boasted that they're untouchable. These are the same gangs that were unleashed to cause chaos in the Kawempe North by-election, and recently in the youth elections. While they quickly abduct and arrest our supporters whenever they're seen on the streets, these gangs have the liberty to roam our streets committing crimes under the protection of the military and police. Commanded by Museveni’s enforcers Christopher Damulira and one Emma Kuteesa, these gangs have been beating up our supporters, removing posters of our candidates, and causing incredibe mayhem. This criminal enterprise was formed following the 2021 rigged election when Museveni tried to impose himself on the ghetto and our people rejected him flat. They resorted to recruiting poor, desperate youth who they pay peanuts and send them to terrorise citizens in the hope that they can force them into submission. Well, those who form and command these criminal gangs must remember that the wheels of justice may come slow, but they will definitely arrive. The people of Uganda only need to keep track of all crimes committed against them. Finally, we have time and again advised and warned the young people who accept to be used in these criminal schemes by the very people who have stolen their future and turned them into beggars. As our people say, it is only a stupid fly that follows the corpse to the grave! You're better off fighting alongside other citizens to get your country back instead of being fed on crumbs from the spoil, while those who use you continue to plunder and steal the future of your children and grandchildren.
My family and I, as well as fellow leaders, comrades and lawyers from the National Unity Platform visited Luzira and Masaka Prisons today to check on political prisoners whom the Museveni regime has condemned there to years and months on remand as a punishment for opposing it. We specifically checked on about 35 NUP comrades who were abducted from Uganda and neighboring countries during and shortly after the last general election and have since then spent several years at Luzira. We also checked on Dr. Kizza Besigye, Haj. Obeid Kamulegeya, and later the Eddie Mutwe group at Masaka Prison. As always, it was uplifting seeing these comrades in high spirits despite spending ages in prison deprived of their freedom. It behooves us – their comrades still outside the physical prison walls – to firmly carry the struggle forward until Uganda is free of dictatorship!
Each of these four women who accompanied me yesterday as I returned my Expression of Interest to run for President of Uganda has a story of desperation and hope. The first one is Aisha Kabanda, mother to our comrade Yasin Ssekitoleko Machete who has spent more than 4 years in detention without trial for simply supporting me and the @NUP_Ug in the last election. Machete's bail application was heard, but three times now, the judge says the ruling is not ready! He remains detained with 8 other comrades who refused to plead guilty to crimes they did not commit. The second one is Nantumbwe Jane, the mother of my principle bodyguard and friend, Eddie Mutwe. Eddie was abducted by Museveni’s son, tortured and kept under incommunicado detention before he was brought to court with grave torture marks. He remains detained at Masaka Prison, despite a court order for him to be transferred for better medical attention. His bail application is yet to be fixed. The third one is Sarah Ddamulira, wife to John Ddamulira, our supporter who was abducted in 2020 and is still missing up to now. Damulira was picked by armed men from Kisekka market where he worked. He was abducted with his son, who heard his father groaning in pain in the next room as he was mercilessly being battered. His whereabouts remain unknown to-date. The fourth one is Nabukeera Monica, the wife to Johnbosco Kibalama, our supporter who was abducted on 3rd June, 2019. He had received numerous threats to stop passionately supporting the #PeoplePower movement or he would face consequences. Since then, every effort has been made to trace him without success. These are just a few of the thousands of victims of the Museveni regime of blood. Seeing them join me today, I felt the heavy weight that we must collectively carry to bring redemption to our nation. It brings great hope to see that despite what these women have gone through, they're still cheering us and encouraging us to complete the mission for which their loved ones are suffering. This afternoon at the @NUP_Ug Headquarters, I was very humbled to formally submit my Expression of Interest in running for President of Uganda in the upcoming #ProtestVote2026. I was privileged to be accompanied by my wife @BarbieItungoK and our son Shadrack Mbogo. In a special way, some family members of our detained or disappeared comrades also offered to come with me, to assert the fact that our mission is not yet complete. I'm very grateful to the mothers of Eddie Mutwe and Yasin Ssekitoleko Machete who are in detention without trial, as well as the wives of our disappeared comrades Ddamulira John and Johnbosco Kibalama. We shall be counting on the support of the millions of Ugandans, as well as the infinite mercies of the Almighty to guide us all through towards victory. #PeoplePowerOurPower
Look at what these criminals are doing right outside the @NUP_Ug headquarters! They grabbed and attempted to undress this female comrade at the premises of a business next to our headquarters just because she's putting on #PeoplePower attire but luckily the owner intervened just in time. Watch how one of the armed men grabs a knife and attempts to slice the clothes off her while another appears to undo her zip! This impunity will end one day!
The whole essence of PROTEST VOTE is to put an end to the mockery that we saw in yesterday's youth elections! Dictator Museveni, having lost all legitimacy now has to resort to the worst forms of electoral fraud as we saw yesterday. Byabakama and his partisan Electoral Commission were completely not in charge as the police, military and some paramilitary groups raided polling centers and caused mayhem. Many of our comrades were beaten up and are nursing wounds in hospitals. Others were detained. Hired goons moved from polling station to polling station disrupting polling and in other cases turning the whole election into a joke. Many @NUP_Ug candidates who were duly nominated found that their names had been removed from the register. In other places NRM Registrars conducted the exercise instead of EC officials. Polling in many places was cancelled. Despite all these, some of our people put up resistance and emerged victorious. WE MUST RISE TO THE OCCASION AND PUT AN END TO THIS MADNESS. 📹 NTV Uganda
This morning in Kawempe North Constituency, we joined Hon. Nalukoola Erias Luyimbazi to commission a health facility which he has established to help especially low income earners who cannot afford to pay for health services. I am very grateful that he is implementing one of our core values - SERVICE. Although it is not our duty as individual leaders to provide public services, it is because of an inefficient, absent government that some patriotic leaders must step in and assist the people. Ultimately we must fight to establish a government that will take charge of its mandate.

Meanwhile in over 80% of the districts, the National Unity Platform candidates in youth elections have been frustrated by Electoral Commission officials, RDCs, DISOs, GISOs, etc from nominating. All these days, we've been getting complaints from every corner of Uganda. Even in all divisions of Kampala, they have blocked most NUP candidates from nominating, while they begged or bought some young people to run under NRM and facilitated them to nominate successfully. In some areas, they hired goons to beat up our candidates and chase them away from nomination venues. Well, we have formally complained about this matter, not because we expect any positive results, but because we always want to be on record. THAT IS WHY THE 2026 ELECTION MUST BE A PROTEST VOTE. Today we're launching the @NUP_Ug campaigns for the upcoming youth elections. Very grateful to our leaders in many parts of the country who have organised events in the different districts and constituencies! Although we notified the Police about these events, we have reports that in numerous Districts, the local police have refused to clear the events and in other cases have raided and broken them up! I personally showed up in Kyadondo East Constituency where I live and joined the young people there. I am very glad to see their energy and enthusiasm. #PeoplePowerOurPower
