In Kisoro District today, we successfully nominated our candidate for District Woman MP, comrade @TanaSalim aka Tana. We are very thankful for a very warm reception by the people of Kisoro. We also used this occasion to officially open the @NUP_Ug office in the district. I am super energized by the energy of our people in Kisoro. #Kisoro4NUP #PeoplePowerOurPower
Behold the National Unity Platform @NUP_Ug's flag-bearer for Kisoro District Woman MP, comrade Sultana Salim (Tana)! #PeoplePowerOurPower https://t.co/08JoD1feqC
Today at Our Lady of Good Counsel church in Gayaza, I stood in as a father-figure for comrade Johnbosco Kibalama's children Samuel and Noeline Kibalama while they received the holy sacrament of confirmation. Comrade Kibalama was abducted on 3rd June 2019 and remains missing to-date. To cover this gap, we are doing our best to support these wonderful children, who are victims of Gen. Museveni's regime of blood. I appreciate comrade Kibalama's wife who has acted as the mother and father to the children ever since the regime disappeared her husband. I also appreciate other family members, friends and comrades whose contributions continue to ensure that Samuel and Noeline receive a decent education and upbringing.
It has been a great pleasure presiding over the @NUP_Ug's Annual Youth Convention held today at Jinja Show Grounds. Despite the intimidation and last-minute demobilisation tactics by the regime police and military, young people turned up in large numbers to reaffirm their commitment to the struggle for freedom and democracy. The partisan police blocked us from using Kakindu Stadium that we had initially booked and paid for. They then blocked most major roads in Jinja town hoping to make it difficult for the young people to show up but it also failed to work. I used the occasion to remind the young people of Uganda about their historical mission at this critical time when our nation is at a crossroads. YOU ARE THE LEADERS OF THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS TODAY. The youth must play a central role in not only re-imagining the future of our country but also getting behind the steering wheel that leads Uganda there. Thank you Hon. @ZaakeFrancis and the entire leadership of our Youth League for organising this important event. #PeoplePowerOurPower
"Make sure those baganda don't get numbers!" These words from Anita Among, the supposed Speaker of Parliament, are despicable, unacceptable and criminal! She is being openly tribalistic against the people of Buganda right inside the Parliament of Uganda situated in Buganda. If we lived under a sane system, she would have resigned by now! Under instructions from Museveni, she had come to make sure that the Coffee Amendment Bill goes through by hook or crook—leave alone the fact that she should ordinarily be a neutral presiding officer for the House. Here she is mobilising for the support of one side of the debate. With all the crimes she continues to commit, she continues to be shielded by Gen. Museveni and his criminal regime. THE PEOPLE OF UGANDA MUST RISE UP AND SAY ENOUGH TO THIS HUMILIATION!
The @NUP_Ug Youth Convention is on tomorrow at Jinja Show Grounds. See you there! https://t.co/6WvDXBHWXn
Earlier today, we addressed the nation on various matters of national importance. We spoke about the continuing human rights violations as well as the plight of political prisoners. Whereas the regime is coercing most of them to plead guilty to crimes they did not commit in order to drive a wedge between them and ourselves, we assured them and their families that we fully understand their pain and frustration. We shall continue pushing for their eventual release and supporting them in every possible way. Close to four years under detention without trial- these are true Ugandan heroes. They are prisoners of conscience. Sadly, the regime has deployed its agents, some of whom claim to belong to the opposition, go around blaming the victims, instead of blaming the criminal regime which has imprisoned them for all this time. Thankfully, the people of Uganda know the truth. We also underscored the importance of sanctions like the ones recently imposed on human rights violators in police. However, we must remind ourselves that development partners can help us in some ways, but the biggest duty to liberate our country lies squarely on the shoulders of WE, the people of Uganda! #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersinUganda #BringBackOurPeople
This afternoon, our comrade who heads security at the @NUP_Ug Headquarters, Achileo Kivumbi was released on 2 million shillings cash bail by the General Court Martial. Achileo was violently abducted on 1st August before spending several days under incommunicado detention and torture. He was later taken to his home where operatives planted military pips as witnessed by various onlookers. He was then arraigned before the military court and charged with unlawful possession of military equipment. While we're happy to receive our brother back, we continue to condemn this ongoing lawlessness! Achileo has spent close to three months under illegal detention, and he leaves behind many other political prisoners. Every person of good conscience must condemn and fight this criminal conduct by the Museveni regime. #FreeUganda #BringBackOurPeople #FreeAllPoliticalPrisoners
At St. Peter's Parish in Kawaala, we have attended the thanksgiving ceremony held in honor of the service of Owek. Dan Muliika to the people of Buganda Kingdom and Uganda at large. Owek. Muliika became Katikkiro of Buganda in 2005 when the Kingdom was facing one of the most difficult times in its history. He used the platform it gave him to denounce oppression, demand for fairness in how Ugandans were being governed, and deny legitimacy to those who had usurped their will by rigging elections. We pledge to continue learning from Owek. Muliika's legacy by remaining as outspoken about injustice as he was, and keeping faithful to the mission we signed up for: the mission of restoring freedom and democracy in our country!
Thank you Hon. Winnie Kiiza for putting the plight of the political prisoners into context. They're being treated exactly like the Kasese victims were treated. God willing, there will be accountability for all this abuse and humiliation of our people. https://t.co/bo5Z13OGWI
Today, I have learned that 19 of the original 32 political prisoners on the #OliviaLutaaya file have succumbed to regime coercion and pleaded guilty to crimes they did not commit after enduring nearly four years of detention without trial. It has also come to light that Mr. Museveni’s minister, Balaam, visited these political prisoners on Saturday —a non-visitation day— and pressured them to plead guilty and seek Museveni’s forgiveness or else they would never leave prison. It is worth noting that, while we have been routinely blocked from visiting these comrades, regime operatives have had unrestricted access to them during which they have held long, recorded conversations and exercised undue influence over them. Even the few times we have met them have always been brief and conducted in the presence of security operatives and prison warders who insisted on listening to every word of our conversation. This blatant abuse of rights and misuse of power must make us all to put today's events in their proper context and therefore understand instead of judging these comrades. They have spent nearly 4 years in jail without trial, and without any evidence being presented against them. By the time the comrades were forced to drop our legal team which had represented them since 2021, the lawyers had taken every step in the book to secure their freedom but without success. The regime always made it clear that this was not a legal case but a political one. They were forced to abandon their lawyers and adopt UPDF lawyers! While we understand the frustration and desperation of those who have pleaded guilty, I salute their 9 other fellow prisoners of conscience who continue to demand a fair trial or their freedom. The day of justice is near. WE SHALL OVERCOME!
Wishing a Happy Teachers' Day to all educators in Uganda! We recognize your sacrifices and dedication despite the many challenges you have to endure along the way. Once in power, we intend to put you among the best paid and most respected of our country's human resources. We are because you are.
Police officers tortured this family's son to death while in their custody. They then attempted to cover it up by claiming he had passed away in a car accident - just like in February 2023 when they tortured to death NUP supporter Coster Muhongya and then claimed he had slipped and fallen to his death while in their bathroom! There shall be accountability for these crimes!
A few days after I was attacked, amongst the visitors who came to check on me were these elderly ladies who are mothers or wives of our political prisoners. Their loved ones have been stuck at Kitalya and Luzira for close to four years. Many of them have now been pushed into pleading guilty to crimes they did not commit, in the hope that they can be freed. It was heartwarming to receive them, and listen to their words of encouragement and strength. We SHALL OVERCOME!
