This evening at the @NUP_Ug Headquarters, we were pleased to host a delegation of the Pan-African Progressive Leaders Solidarity Network led by Hon. @MarthaKarua. The delegation comprised of leaders and jurists from Kenya, Tanzania and the Comoros. We discussed various matters of great importance including the continued detention of Dr. @kizzabesigye1 and other political prisoners despite the recent Supreme Court judgment. We emphasised the need to strengthen our cooperation in the pursuit of justice and democracy across our various borders. Ultimately, we can only be free when all of us are free. Aluta continua!
This afternoon, we addressed the public from our headquarters in Makerere-Kavule on several important issues. Key among these is last week's Supreme Court decision that disbanded the military court martial and effectively ordered for the release of all political prisoners whose fate these kangaroo courts had sealed. We once again welcome this decision, and challenge the judiciary to continue on that path of justice. We have also spoken out against the high cost of education and the huge financial burden that parents face while taking their children back to school. The Museveni regime should be ashamed of itself for having failed to provide quality and affordable education in the 40 years it has spent in power! About the forthcoming Kawempe North by-elections, we have congratulated the ten members who have formally expressed their interest to represent the party as its candidate in this election. I have challenged them to respect the outcome of the Party's candidate selection process, which our Election Management Committee will handle with the necessary transparency and integrity. We have a duty to present only the most competent candidates for election. We shall do just that for the voters of Kawempe North. The regime has done all it can to make us hate and give up on elections but we must never give them that satisfaction. Yes, we have faced several disappointments and setbacks, but we must never forget that we have every factor on our side. We have the people. We have the age. We have the energy. We have the time. If we remain steadfast, the dictator will eventually have no choice but to fall no matter what he takes us through along the way.
