This morning, fellow leaders in NUP accompanied by former political prisoners and families of some of our comrades still stuck in prison have filed a Constitutional Petition challenging the recently passed UPDF Amendment Act of 2025. The Act was passed without quorum in Parliament, in violation of the Constitution, and in blatant disregard of the Supreme Court's ruling of 31st January which outlawed the trial of civilians in military courts. We are seeking from the Constitutional Court orders and declarations stopping the implementation of this draconian law as it violates constitutional safeguards on fair trial and separation of powers, and underminines judicial independence.
